Wisdom Tooth Removal Diamond Bar

Wisdom tooth removal is one of the most common forms of oral surgery. Most adults in their early twenties end up having their wisdom teeth removed. The thought of getting your wisdom teeth pulled creates a lot of anxiety for patients. Diamond Bar Dental Studio specializes in this form of oral surgery and helping to alleviate your stress and worry about the procedure. These are the most common questions Dr. Cho and Dr. Jeonare asked about wisdom teeth:

  • How long does it take to recover?
  • Is wisdom tooth removal painful?
  • Is it really necessary to have them extracted?
  • What happens if I just let my wisdom teeth grow in?

The best way to describe wisdom teeth is that they are kind of like your appendix. They are there, but there is no specific reason for them. Similarly, some people have wisdom teeth that grow in with no problems like people that never have to get their appendix removed. But, when you do have wisdom tooth problems, you don’t want to let them wreak havoc on your mouth. Generally, if your wisdom teeth aren’t bothering you, then there’s a good chance you aren’t thinking about having them removed. With that said, let’s look at the reasons for wisdom tooth extraction in Diamond Bar.

Good reasons to get them taken out.

Our mouths have to deal with the growth of these four (4) teeth long after our jaws have finished developing. This leaves very little room inside our mouth for expansion. This is the reason wisdom teeth become impacted. Wisdom teeth might grow in at an angle, flat, get trapped in the jawbone, or never fully erupt. A sign of this is when the pain from them growing in never seems to stop. They begin to harm the health of your other teeth, sometimes shifting them out of the way to make room. Other patients have their wisdom teeth grow in without any initial problems but eventually end up with cavities because they can’t clean them properly.

In some cases, you will feel constant pressure in your mouth, but not acute pain. This most likely means that your wisdom teeth are growing in okay, but there is little room for them. As these new teeth squeeze in, it can ruin your smile. For example, if you wore braces or Invisalign in the past, and your wisdom teeth start pushing through, it will make the rest of your teeth crooked and out of place. Therefore, it is crucial not to ignore getting them removed even if you are not in pain. Think about the time, effort, and money spent on orthodontics, retainers, and the beautiful smile you have as a result. You don’t want to risk your smile and oral health because of those pesky wisdom teeth.

Symptoms of Widsom Tooth

One of the most common symptoms of this problem is that you feel discomfort for a bit, and then it stops. A few months will go by, possibly a year, and it flares up again. For other patients, an infection sets in when food and bacteria get trapped in those hard to reach teeth. Dr. Cho and Dr. Jeon recommend wisdom tooth removal when these problems begin to occur. The first step is to call our office and schedule an appointment. An x-ray will show precisely what is happening with your wisdom teeth, whether you are in pain or not.

Reasons for Widsom Tooth Extraction

These are the most common reasons for wisdom teeth extraction. You might not suffer from any of these symptoms, in which case you probably go to the dentist for routine exams and cleanings. The thing with wisdom teeth is that very few people will ever get out of having this surgery. Our advice at Diamond Bar Dental Studio is the sooner, the better, so you do not risk any potential damage to your other teeth.

Wisdom Tooth Removal Surgery

Like any surgery, wisdom tooth removal comes with a set of potential risks and complications. Expert Diamond Bar oral surgeons like Dr. Cho and Dr. Jeon do everything they can to avoid any difficulties or adverse side effects. The most common side effect is pain.

During the surgery itself, we will use moderate sedation or conscious sedation, which is commonly referred to as Sedation Dentistry. This is discussed and decided upon during your pre-operative appointment at our office. Once you are sedated, the process of removing the wisdom teeth begins. Quite simply, the goal is to loosen and disconnect the tissues around your wisdom teeth, so Dr. Cho and Dr. Jeon can pull them out. While every patient is different, our dentist have the experience and finesse to extract your wisdom teeth in the least invasive manner possible.

Teeth Surgery Recovery

As far as the recovery is concerned, that is by far the number one (1) reason people avoid having their wisdom teeth removed, to begin with. Most patients recover from surgery in three (3) to four (4) days. If your teeth were impacted, it might take one (1) week to recover. The first day your mouth will form blood clots as the incision site begins to heal. The next few days, you are going to experience swelling in your mouth and cheeks. This improves and reduces, and patience is a must. After the one (1) week to ten (10) day mark, you will notice that the stiffness and soreness in your jaw are going away.

However, pain is subjective, and no two (2) people experience it the same way. In fact, pain is both a sensory and emotional experience that is felt differently by all people. How you tolerate, pain is also unique. You might hear people talk about pain threshold when they have their wisdom teeth removed. What does this mean exactly? Essentially, your pain threshold is the minimum point that something causes you pain. One patient might feel mild pain from minimal swelling while another will feel acute or severe pain from the same side effect of surgery.

Like most people, I really don't like going to the dentist. And I avoid it whenever possible. Dr. Jeon made me very comfortable and put me at ease. I tend to be anxious and she explained everything that would happen and what she was doing. I would highly recommend Dr. Jeon to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, gentle dentist with an excellent bedside manner.

I called Dr. Cho because of a dental emergency. I was in so much pain and stress because I thought I would have to wait all weekend before seeing a dentist. Dr. Cho was accommodating, comforting, and really did everything he could to turn a bad situation into a manageable one. I can't thank him enough for his kindness and flexibility. I would highly recommend Dr. Cho to my family and friends (and anyone looking for an excellent dentist).
