Dental Veneers in Diamond Bar
We all want to have the whitest teeth and a perfect smile. Often, teeth whitening is not enough to restore your teeth to their original luster. If this is the case, you might be a great candidate for dental veneers. Dental veneers are an excellent option for many people, including those who have teeth that are severely discolored or chipped. They can be used to treat many different cosmetic concerns, including broken or smaller-than-average teeth. Some patients may only get one (1) veneer in the case of a broken or chipped tooth, but many patients get between six (6) to eight (8) veneers to create an even, symmetrical smile. The top front eight teeth are the most commonly applied veneers.
Dental Veneers fix the following problems:
- Discolored or stained teeth
- Worn down teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped teeth
- Teeth with gaps between them
Dental veneers are made from either porcelain or resin composite materials. Dr. Cho and Dr. Jeon will discuss the benefits of porcelain and resin veneers with you during your consultation. Porcelain veneers tend to resist stains better than resin veneers. Veneers aren’t the same as dental crowns or tooth implants. They cover the front surface of your teeth. Dental implants, on the other hand, replace your entire tooth. A crown also encases your entire tooth, but veneers only cover the front surface of your tooth.
Advantages of Dental Veneers:
- Provide a natural tooth appearance
- Gum tissue tolerates porcelain well
- Porcelain veneers are stain resistant
- The color can be selected to make dark teeth look whiter
- Veneers can change a tooth’s color and shape
What to expect during your appointments
At your first appointment with Dr. Cho and Dr. Jeon, they will discuss your veneer options with you. Specifically, which type of veneer is the best for your needs and how many you would like to have placed. Next, digital x-rays will be taken to determine the health of your teeth. These x-rays show whether there are any signs of tooth decay, gum disease, or other oral health issues. During your second appointment, Dr. Cho and Dr. Jeon will size your teeth for the veneers. They trim down your teeth about a half a millimeter. Before doing this, they remove the enamel and take a mold of your teeth. This mold is used to to create your brand new veneers.
Generally, after Dr. Cho and Dr. Jeon take your mold, it is about one (1) to two (2) weeks before your veneers are ready. At this appointment, we make sure the fit, shape, and color of your veneers are perfect. Now it’s time for your teeth to be thoroughly cleaned. Deep cleaning is crucial because you don’t want bacteria trapped under the veneer. After the cleaning, Dr. Cho and Dr. Jeon use a tool to create a rougher texture on each tooth of which the veneer will be applied. They do this because it allows for the veneer to stick to your tooth. Generally, dental cement is used to bind the veneer to your tooth. Then an ultraviolet light hardens the cement quickly you have a brand new smile.
