Dental Bonding

Dental bonding or tooth or teeth bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that fixes minor dental issues. Do you have a chipped, cracked, or discolored tooth? Diamond Bar Dental Studio offers dental bonding as a cosmetic dentistry solution, which also has an economic benefit for patients, too. The cost per tooth is considerably less expensive than veneers. It is most appropriate for smaller or temporary cosmetic changes to your teeth in areas where you have low bite pressure. For example, many patients receive dental bonding on their front teeth to fix a gap or make the length of the teeth even. Depending on the location of your bonding procedure, it can last anywhere from four (4) to eight (8) years. Tooth bonding addresses the following minor cosmetic dentistry issues:

  • Decayed teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Elongate teeth
  • Change the shape of your teeth
  • Alternative to amalgam fillings
  • Protect part of your tooth’s root

How does Dental Bonding work?

The first thing to remember is that this is a cosmetic dentistry procedure to correct minor imperfections. It is not a permanent solution like veneers. Our dentists will thoroughly examine your teeth to ensure you are a candidate for this procedure. A gentle phosphoric acid is applied to the surface of your teeth. It allows our cosmetic dentists to etch and roughen the surface of the tooth. You will not feel any pain, and this helps the bonding material to stay in its place. You will have tooth-colored composite material applied to your tooth. The dentist recognize that it takes an artistic eye to achieve the optimal result. They work to sculpt and shape the material to your tooth to give you the desired result. Once the bonding material (putty-like) is placed a special ultraviolet light hardens and sets the material. After this, your tooth is polished and buffed out for a smooth finish. The bonding process is the same for one or more of the teeth you would like to fix. Each tooth takes around forty-five (45) or sixty (60) minutes to complete. The bonding process is usually done in one (1) office visit. Most patients express that tooth bonding does not hurt. The reason for this is We are working on a tooth that has little to no sensitivity. You do not require general anesthesia, and many patients undergo this without local anesthetic or numbing agents, too. It is considered a cosmetic procedure, and the majority of insurance companies do not cover dental bonding

Caring for your smile

Once your teeth are bonded you do not need to worry about cleaning them any differently. You will continue to brush and floss the bonded areas of your teeth just like you would for your regular teeth. Continue using an antiseptic mouthwash once or twice a day and carry on with your routine check-ups and cleanings. There is a potential for staining if you drink a lot of coffee, dark sodas, red wine, or are a smoker. We recommend that if you have your two (2) front teeth bonded that you avoid biting directly into hard or chewy foods. These types of food would weaken the bonding more quickly is easily avoided if you make a conscious habit not to do so. Also, avoiding biting your nails and chewing ice as they would be direct sharp surfaces.

Get the smile you’ve always wanted with dental bonding!
