Here’s a quick guide on how to best prepare for this season’s candy-filled events!
Avoid Sticky Candies
While most Halloween candy is easy to chew, not all of them are great for your teeth. Sticky candy, in particular, clings to your teeth, making it difficult to brush or wash away. When this candy stays put on your teeth, it can end up causing tooth decay and cavities. It’s best to stay away from these candies, such as taffy and gummy bears.
Eat Halloween Candy with a Meal
I know it sounds crazy, but eating candy around the same time you’re eating a full meal will actually help reduce the bacteria in your mouth. This is because saliva is increased when you’re eating a full meal, so rinsing away any bacteria that the Halloween candy brings to the table is more probable.

During Halloween season, it’s common for kids to head over to the candy bowl and eat a few candies a day. By limiting the amount they’re allowed to eat and supplementing their diet with healthy food, you increase the general health of their body and teeth. Try to place the Halloween candy bowl in a spot they can’t reach or get into and set some rules on how much they’re allowed to eat each day. Brushing twice a day with a toothpaste that contains fluoride is important to keep in mind every day, but especially around Halloween season. You should be sure to make sure the toothbrush isn’t worn or frayed. Flossing once a day will also help.
